New Year – New You

Happy New Year Everyone!

I know this one is early, but…

This week, I figured the best article would be about goal setting. With the new year, let’s start off GREAT!  And find a way to keep it going for the whole year.  Think of your health and fitness goals, is it to eat healthier? Run a 5K? Run more? Join a gym? Work on just YOU?  Let’s talk about some of these potential goals you may have in mind.

To start, if it is just to get more fit, think small, start with at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic activity (or a combination of the two), plus strength training, these are recommended guidelines from the American Heart Association. Another thing is set a step goal for every hour, the recommended goal daily is 10,000 steps per the American Heart Association.

If you have something more specific in mind, like running a 5K race, thinking about how you want to obtain that goal, or who can help you with it.  Consider joining like a run club, or a virtual running group where you have support members to help you achieve your goal (this also works for any distance running 😊).  Also look into training plans that are realistic to your schedule and goal to help you achieve it.

If it is something like weight loss or eating healthier, it helps to talk to a professional and find a method to help track your calories and macros along with your fitness activity.

And these don’t have to just be short term, you can make any of these long-term lifestyle changes. I have seen it done before and anyone can make these changes long term.

There are so many goals out there, make sure you do one that is right for you.
