Since we were off two weeks ago and Coach Thor was in charge last week, I decided this week to give you something SPICY this week– Cayenne Pepper Supplementation. So some of this will be familiar from my ALL THINGS SPICY miniseries last year, but who couldn’t use a refresher ever now and then.
To begin, let’s familiarize ourselves with cayenne pepper, it a long, thin, bright red Capsicum annuum. Its similar capsicums, including sweet bell peppers, jalapeños, poblanos, serranoes, and ghost peppers. But back to cayenne pepper, it originates from Cayenne, French Guiana. What we normally see it in is a dried and ground into a fine powder; which is used in various recipes or to add a little kick to some foods.

What you may not know is that you can get it in a supplement form and its very health to intake or use topically. Some of the health benefits include, but not limited to:
- Pain Relief
- Psoriasis Treatment
- Metabolism Boost
- Digestive Health
- Reducing High Blood Pressure
- Reducing Cancer Risk (prostate, skin, and pancreatic)
Taking a cayenne pepper supplement has very good nutritional values. It is loaded with antioxidants such as,
- Vitamin A
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin E
- Beta Carotene
- Cryptoxanthin
- Choline
- Lutein
- Zeaxanthin
On top of those antioxidants cayenne pepper supplements also are loaded with
- Vitamin B1
- Vitamin B2
- Vitamin B6
- Vitamin K
- Folate
- Manganese
- Potassium
- Copper
- Iron
- Magnesium
- Selenium
- Phosphorous
- Zinc
However with all that nutritional value, and positive health benefits, I, of course have to give you what to watch out for, so you can make the decision if a cayenne supplement is for you. Therefore some side effects to cayenne peppers
- Upset stomach
- Heartburn
- Uncomfortable sensation in your mouth if you are not used to it

On top of these side effects, it unfortunately can interact negatively with–
- ACE inhibitors
- Blood thinners
- Aspirin
- Antacids
Cayenne supplements may not be for you, you just may want to add it to your meals, however as always think before you start something new and if you have any questions or concerns, you can always message me at Get In Touch.
