There have been a number of studies that look at the use of capsicum for weight management or for the use of weight loss. Capsicum in a meal can decrease hunger and increase the feeling of fullness in an individual (Cayenne, 2014).
The use of capsicum in metabolic conditions is happening in a variety of subjects of different, age, sex, or cultural background; additional it was looked at by adding it to food or by taking a supplement, CAPS. The healthy individual taking CAPS or consuming chili pepper to determine the effects on the metabolism had to be free of various diseases such as cardiovascular and diabetes. For a healthy individual taking capsicum, it is thought to increase the glucose absorption in the body while it increases the release of glucagon (Panchal, S., Bliss, E., & Brown, L, 2018).
The CAPS supplement use, was explored in the human diet to determine the energy expenditure and use of anti-obesity therapy. The results showed that 20.5% of the negative energy balance see supports the counteracting the unfavorable negative energy balance. (Janssens, P. L., Hursel, R., Martens, E. A., & Westerterp-Plantenga, M. S., 2013). Additionally, CAPS was used to see if it will decrease the percent body fat and fat mass in a human subject; while considering other interactions in the human body. During a 12 week study, those who were on the supplement had an average 5.91 lower and 6.68 in fat mass. (Rogers, J., Urbina, S. L., Taylor, L. W., Wilborn, C. D., Purpura, M., Jäger, R., & Juturu, V, 2018).
Other areas of the CAPS was researched was in younger, obese subjects. The subjects were determined by their age and if they were overweight or obese. The subjects were measured through the BMI index and had to provide blood samples throughout the whole study. The use in obese subject’s show that they are less responsive to the effects of CAPS, the chemical counteracts metabolic changes in the obese subjects (Rigamonti, A. E., Casnici, C., Marelli, O., Col, A. D., Tamini, S., Lucchetti, E., Sartorio, A, 2018).
Capsicum can be used in other forms for metabolic conditions, other than just supplemental. There are the pure forms available to the public in the forms of extract, various sauces and spice. Consuming either in moderation has shown over time, a decrease in glucose, and bad cholesterol, whereas excessive amounts eliminate the benefits of that (Kenig, S., Baruca-Arbeiter, A., Mohorko, N., Stubelj, M., Černelič-Bizjak, M., Bandelj, D., Petelin, A, 2018).
Despite the positive findings, of capsicum in weight management, it appears the higher dose of capsicum that is ingested daily can cancel out the effects of taking a moderate dose daily (Kenig, S., Baruca-Arbeiter, A., Mohorko, N., Stubelj, M., Černelič-Bizjak, M., Bandelj, D., Petelin, A. 2018).
